Petition for Yousef Nadarkhani
Recognizing that…
Yousef Nadarkhani, while innocent of any genuine crime against his fellow man was arrested by the state of Iran while protesting the Islamic indoctrination of his children mandated by the Government of Iran.
Yousef Nadarkhani’s wife and children were threatened and he himself was tortured by officers of the Iranian Government in attempts to force him to deny his religious beliefs.
Yousef Nadarkhani was charged with apostasy, a crime which does not appear anywhere in the penal code of Iran.
The charge of apostasy, a ‘crime’ based solely on religious belief or disbelief, is itself in violation of Article 18 of the International Covenant of Civil and Political Rights, which Iran ratified without reservation, as well as universally accepted standards of human rights.
The investigation into Yousef Nadarkhani’s religious beliefs violates Article 23 of the Constitution of Iran, as does any punishment based solely on religious belief.
Despite misinformation in the state-sponsored media of Iran, and misleading statements by Iranian officials, Yousef Nadarkhani was charged with no other crimes but apostasy and that he is still in imminent danger of execution solely for his religious beliefs.
…we the undersigned call on
The government of Iran to immediately drop all charges against Pastor Yousef, release him from prison and permit him and his family either return to their home or to leave the country if they so desire.
The Government of the Netherlands, the European Union, and the United Nations: to condemn this barbaric violation of fundamental human rights in the strongest terms and to pressure the Government of Iran to release Pastor Yousef in accordance with our petition.
People of good conscience throughout the world from any or no faith community to rise up and denounce this travesty of justice and join with us in calling for the release of Yousef Nadarkhani.
